Returning Home to Ourselves: Why We Named Our Brand Nokubu

When we first envisioned this brand, we knew we didn’t want a name that simply described products sitting on a shelf. We wanted a word that felt like an anchor—a gentle reminder to pause, breathe, and step back into your own skin.

We found that anchor in a word from the Kalinago language: Nokubu.

The Routine as a Sacred Act

Choosing the name Nokubu was our way of changing that narrative.

The Origin: A Word of Belonging

The Kalinago are the Indigenous people of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean, a culture historically tied to the land, sea, and an intimate understanding of natural healing. In their language, Nokubu translates simply and beautifully to "my body".

There are no complex frills to the word. It is a direct statement of ownership, connection, and presence.

When we came across this word, it stopped us in our tracks. In a world that constantly tells us to change, fix, or alter who we are, Nokubu doesn't ask you to transform into someone else. It simply asks you to inhabit the body you already have.
